Come on down to pier 61 on the beautiful
Anacortes waterfront docks. Our bright Orange Beaver's operated
by Northwest Seaplanes will
be there to take you away on an exquisite 1/2 hour scenic ride
starting in Anacortes which is the gateway to the San Juan Islands.
Our immaculate vintage deHavilland Beaver Floatplanes are one of the
best ways to get a view of where you are in the Pacific Northwest.
Your special guided scenic tour will take you over the city of
Anacortes generally in a clockwise direction so you'll be able to see
all of the Oyster Run in full swing as we pass by the downtown
waterfront. From there it's off to the north towards Guemis
Island. This is a close in, yet remote feeling island in the San
Juan Island chain. You'll be looking easily into Bellingham Bay,
where the City of Bellingham awaits you. From there it's over to
Cypress Island, a beautiful heavily treed and isolated island.
You'll see expansive undeveloped shorelines that even Captain
Vancouver saw many years ago. After we pass Cypress Island we
cruise west and pass between Blakely Island and Orcas Island.
Orcas is home to the famous Rosario Resort and worth a visit there if
you have the time. Looking north you'll see the expansive body
of water called the Straights of Georgia. These waters separate
Vancouver Island from the mainland of British Columbia. On a
good clear day you can easily see the city of Vancouver, BC as well as
the huge range of mountains called the North Coast Mountain Range in
British Columbia. Often the waters will appear an aqua green in
the Straights due to the huge amount of glacial waters that flow out
of the Frazier River next to the city of Vancouver. Straight
ahead to the west lies more of the San Juan Islands, Shaw Island, San
Juan Island itself and all of the many other small islands making up
this island paradise. Off in the far distance due west is the
beautiful city of Victoria on the southern most tip of Vancouver
Island. Vancouver Island stretches for some 350 miles or more
and is some of the most pristine land in the world. At this
point we gently glide into a southern direction and pass by Lopez
Island, Center Island and Decatur Island. Off ahead and to the
southwest is the Straights of Juan deFuca. This is the huge body
of water which separates Canada from the United States. You'll
be able to see the Olympic Mountains which make up the rugged terrain
of the Olympic Peninsula in the US. Keep your eyes open as quite
often we see pods of Orca Killer Whales and soaring Bald Eagles.
Look closely on rocky shorelines and islands and you'll be able to
spot seals and sea lions too. You'll be able to see the depth of
the deep blue Pacific waters below and look into the backyards of the
San Juan Islanders as we fly usually around 1000 feet above the
earth's surface. Our ride then swings a bit to the Southeast
towards Whidbey Island which is the third or fourth largest island in
the contiguous United States after Padre Island, Texas. We'll
also fly over the Deception Pass Bridge. Upon completion in July
1935, the 976 foot span Deception Pass Bridge connected Whidbey Island
to the tiny Pass Island, and Pass Island to Fidalgo Island. The
pass is today surrounded by Deception Pass State Park, the
most-visited park in Washington state with over 2 million visitors
each year. At this point we'll be turning due East and looking
straight ahead at the Cascade Mountain Range. You'll be able to
see way in the distance Mt. Rainier to the south, Glacier Peak which
is a little more north of Rainier and fairly due East beautiful snowy
Mt. Baker. To the south closer in is Camano Island. We'll
then turn back to the north and fly right by the cute little town of
La Conner where each spring attracts tens of thousands of visitors to
view a wide array of tulips. Looking left and to the west is
Fidalgo Island which was originally inhabited by the Samish and
Swinomish peoples. It is named for Spanish explorer and
cartographer Salvador Fidalgo who explored the area in the 1790s.
This is the island where our trip began and now will end. We
hope you take a ride with us. By the way, each passenger has
their own David Clark headset so you can talk comfortably to each
other and to the pilot (work load permitting) for your own personal
guided tour. Don't forget to meet the
Beaver Drivers.
Thanks for taking a Beaver Ride with us! Also... we make no
guarantee of the weather unfortunately, but we do think you'll have a
great flight and a great time!
